If I can't do all of the work in one weekend, I will have to bum a ride off my parents which would be an all day affair for them. So likely it would end up being the same amount of time to mail order parts instead. My parents house is about an hour from the nearest parts store that has an extremely limited selection. If I do the work myself, I'm an okay mechanic but not amazing so I'll probably end up screwing something up and having to wait for more parts. But they do stand behind their work - I had them replace my steering box and it started leaking fluid after a few hundred miles so they put another one in for free right away. However, shop rates are very high here and their parts source I think is CarQuest or similar. The local shop knows 22RE engines pretty well and has done solid B+ work so far. My three options are either 1) have a local shop that helped me pass smog do the work or 2) do the work at my parents place four hours away or 3) do the work fast enough that my neighbors don't notice a broken down truck parked on the street. I do NOT have anywhere that I can park off-street where I live or anywhere nearby to do work for more than a couple hours. ![]() But I really don't want to do that forever because I don't want to pollute. For the last year, I've been nursing it along by adding a quart of oil ever 500 miles. I also have an annoying oil leak coming from the oil drain bolt. ![]() It appears to be coming from both the timing chain cover and the front main seal. To get in the festive spirit, I've been contemplating finally fixing the Exxon Valdez oil leak on the front of my 22RE.
